Shantinagar English School began in a single farmhouse classroom with eleven students and one stubborn belief: that a school should shape people, not just transcripts. A century later, that belief still runs the place.

Established as a co-educational English-medium school in Nepal, Shantinagar English School was founded with the goal of providing quality education suited to the needs of the modern world. At a time when education in Nepal often focused narrowly on preparing students to become doctors or engineers, the school set out to support the overall development of each child. From the beginning, equal importance has been given to strong academics, practical skills, and good behaviour, with the aim of shaping responsible young citizens who care about their community and country.
Despite the usual challenges faced by a growing school, Shantinagar has steadily built a reputation for thoughtful teaching and a caring learning environment. The school continues to work towards offering education that meets contemporary standards while remaining rooted in local values.

I joined the Board because Shantinagar English School is one of the few institutions still willing to put its money where its mouth is - admitting the brightest minds regardless of means, and measuring success not by trophies but by the questions students ask once they leave these walls.
We are not here to preserve a legacy. We are here to renew one — admitting girls and boys who will challenge what we built, not simply inherit it. That has meant uncomfortable investments: financial aid that now covers nearly half of every cohort, a faculty that turns over its most senior voices when growth stalls, and a curriculum rebuilt from first principles every ten years.
The school your child walks into today is the same stubborn belief my grandmother taught in this valley a hundred years ago: that education should make people impossible to intimidate. We will keep building until that belief has nowhere left to go.
